Black Eyed Peas performing at KAABOO Texas

Day 2 was spent mostly exploring other aspects of the festival. While I was not able to attend a comedy stage, I heard a resounding buzz of approval around the festival regarding the lineup. A note to future festival-goers: the stage is inside a tent, and doors close once the show starts, so plan to get in the line early if there’s a stand-up comic you want to see.

The PALATE Stage was a series of chef demonstrations, offering food tastings of dishes made by top-tiered chefs from around the world.
Everyone needs to be 21+ years old, Maker’s Mark sponsored the stage, so every dish incorporated bourbon in some manner. The PALATE Stage I checked out was Michelle Bernstein, a world-renowned chef (just check out her Wikipedia page – she’s an insanely talented chef). She was incredibly interactive with the audience and used bourbon as a sauce for both her shrimp and steak and as a jelly for her pudding. Participating in her stage made me wish I attended more PALATE stages!

Other amenities included taps free filtered water dispersed around the festival and sponsor Bai giving away free drinks – I salute the festival’s efforts in making sure attendees stay hydrated.

I noticed that most of the festival was wheelchair accessible, and stadium seating inside made for comfortable viewing for older guests or exhausted attendees. This was a nice touch considering the demographic for artists like Kid Rock, Flo Rida, Los Lonely Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rick Springfield, and the Black Eyed Peas. Regarding to all stages, it was clear that no expense was spared.

My main critique of the festival would have to be the BASK area. Many festival-goers complained about lack of proper advertising regarding the BASK area, a pool area equipped with bathroom/showers, yard games, and a view of the exclusive BASK stage. In the future, I could see the marketing team easily avoiding this issue again by advertising that this type of access would require an additional pass.

Overall I would recommend that for people wanting to go to a festival that both they and their parents will enjoy, KAABOO might be an option to consider.
