On Tuesday night (4/10/2018), KTRU student leadership made a last-minute decision to record an off-air interview with Z-Ro and his lawyer Charles ‘Big Angry’ Adams instead of airing it live. The timeline of the decision was insensitive and unprofessional. To Z-Ro, Adams, and the DJ who arranged the interview, we offer our sincere apologies. Students within KTRU raised concerns about Z-Ro’s response in the press to an April 2017 assault accusation, which was later no billed. Our decision to record the interview off-air was meant to allow us time to further deliberate with our DJ’s before its potential public release. Ultimately, KTRU is a student-run radio station; our top priorities lie with KTRU DJ’s and the Rice Community.

KTRU is an all-inclusive radio station that welcomes diverse perspectives to be represented in everything we do. We will be examining training that we currently offer our staff and will further review our policies and update them as needed. We thank our listeners for their support of KTRU and we look forward to continuing to share eclectic music. KTRU reaffirms its position as a platform for local artists.
