I’m not sure if it’s because this was my first concert since the pandemic first hit, or if it’s because this was the last stop of the Pink Moon Tour, but there was a special energy that I hadn’t felt in a long time at this concert.
Opener Bren Joy primed the audience for the night with a set full of joyous spirit, as if he was celebrating with the audience the triumph of music through the pandemic. His happy-go-lucky performance filled with strong choruses placated an antsy audience, as if reminding everyone to enjoy the moments as they come.
Following Bren Joy’s set, “Icy” was a perfect transition to Pink Sweat$’s entrance to the stage. As the set progressed and as he interacted with the audience, it was easy to tell the theme of the night: love. This atmosphere was created through Pink Sweat$’s choice of songs, like “Paradise” and “17” and other love songs in his discography. At times he would focus on individuals and sing directly for them, showering these lucky people with his undivided attention; at others, he would dedicate songs to couples. With such a talented man Even if you came alone, you couldn’t help but fall in love, whether it be with someone else or with love itself.
I can’t pinpoint the source of the dreamy, romantic haze, but one thing is clear, and his label said it best: he is the King of Love Songs.
